An artist whose life was as bold and startling as her work, Frida Kahlo battled physical infirmity and a male-dominated art establishment to become one of the most acclaimed and influential painters of her generation. Kahlo also had a passionate interest in politics with her leftist views informed by the Mexican Revolution; she was an outspoken advocate of Communism and a powerful symbol of the progressive movement throughout her life. The Life and Times of Frida Kahlo is a documentary which tells Kahlo's story as a woman, as an artist, and as a symbol of women's rights and Latin progress. The film is narrated by actress Rita Moreno, while singer Lila Downs provides the voice of Kahlo.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

Runtime: 105 min

Trailer

The End of an Empire. The Birth of Two Nations. VICEROY’S HOUSE tells the true story of the final months of British rule in India.

Viceroy’s House in Delhi was the home of the British rulers of India. After 300 years, that rule was coming to an end. For 6 months in 1947, Lord Mountbatten, great grandson of Queen Victoria, assumed the post of the last Viceroy, charged with handing India back to its people.

The film’s story unfolds within that great House. Upstairs lived Mountbatten together with his wife and daughter; downstairs lived their 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants. As the political elite - Nehru, Jinnah and Gandhi - converged on the House to wrangle over the birth of independent India, conflict erupted. A decision was taken to divide the country and create a new Muslim homeland: Pakistan. It was a decision whose consequences reverberate to this day.

a film that is both epic and intimate, with an inspirational message that celebrates tolerance. Many of the events depicted are either unknown or forgotten, but all have strong contemporary relevance in terms of lessons to be learnt concerning the politics of division and fear, the origins of religious extremism, and our moral responsibility towards migrants fleeing violence for a better life.

The history of the clown Chocolate, the first black circus artist in France, which has a great success in the late 19th century.

This lively and unmissable French box-office hit details the fascinating rise-and-fall story of the first popular Afro-Cuban artist of the French stage. Lavishly set in stunning Belle Époque Paris, it is beautifully realised through the energised performances of the charismatic Omar Sy (The Intouchables, 2011) and real-life circus-performer (and grandson of Charlie Chaplin), James Thierrée.

During the late 1800s, former slave Chocolat (Sy) is making a living in a provincial French circus performing the role of a tooth-baring cannibal named Kalanka — a surprisingly novel spectacle for the country people who have never seen a black man before. It is here that he impresses established performer George Footit (Thierrée) who takes him under his wing. Together, they develop a routine which catapults them to stardom, glamour and riches in Paris’ Nouveau Cirque. However, the satisfaction of success can only last so long as Chocolat’s desire for equality begins to take hold.
