Volunteers reviews of their farm experience

Feedback left by (Elmeri) for you    14 March 24    5 star excellent

I spent three weeks at the farm and it was really good experience! The farm has excellent volunteer facilities including cinema room and newly renovated houses. I was working mainly at the construction as well as in the garden. The work was super easy and fun and never too challenging. The staff were super welcoming and after the working hours there was a lot of free time as well. Tony would take us to the beach nearby every week and the farm itself was surrounded by beautiful nature and good possibilities for running and exploring! I loved the fact that there were so many backpackers working at the farm same time so you never felt lonely there. I made lot of good memories and got to meet really awesome people. Thanks for having me!!

Was a fun experience with a lot of other volunteers. It was a peaceful time and I got to do fulfilling work and contribute to a lifestyle that other people valued greatly. The hosts were very grateful and provided fantastic accommodation and food. I am typically a meat eater but did not feel like I was missing anything during my two weeks at the farm. If I had planned further in advance I would have stayed longer to help complete more projects.

I spent 5 weeks at the farm and enjoyed everyday. This was my first farm experience so I didn’t really have any expectations but my time there was so lovely annd the work was always easy going and never too demanding. Everybody is very welcoming and there are other volunteers so the social aspect was really nice. There is such a calming atmosphere on the farm and lots of free time. I made some life long friendships here and I’m extremely grateful I had this opportunity. Thank you for having me :)

My time here at the Farm WAY exceeded my expectations. Tony is a such a special human and wonderful host who gives you a great tour of the farm and makes you feel at home right away. Volunteers are treated as family and are both welcomed and encouraged to take part in the Hare Krishna community and services. Devotees do not push or force their religion upon anyone, but instead, this unique community and its practices are available for anyone who is interested in experiencing something new and sacred. It is easy to create friendships with the other volunteers -- from hanging out all the time with one another, going on Newcastle beach trips, bush walks and more, the amazing people I met from all over the world is by far the part I miss most.

- The food is AMAZING -- very healthy, tasty, vegetarian, Indian-style cuisine. I did not feel hungry once during my time here.
- Accommodations are luxurious for a volunteer-- very cozy and comfortable.
- The work is extremely doable and very fun. There are a variety of jobs to be done around the organic garden (with Mana The Great), the kitchen, the barns, the guest house and even opportunities to get involved with marketing/social media for the farm! Also, it's very nice/relaxing having each afternoon off.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you to Tony and the Farm for providing me with such a memorable experience!

The farm has amazing volunteer facilities, including; newly renovated houses, cinema room / snug and 3 meals provided a day, all set in the beautiful Hunter valley with plenty of open fields to explore. The organic garden and surrounding cows were lovely, and although physical, the work wasn't challenging which meant a lot of different volunteers from different backgrounds could happily stay on the farm. The food provided was delicious traditional Indian cuisine, which luckily wasn't too spicy and really enriched the cultural experience. There is also the option to partake in worship, which I would recommend doing as it was really enlightening, especially if you don't know much about the Hare Krishna religion. Overall Tony was excellent with communication and was able to provide transport from central Sydney to get to the farm.

My feedback on the Krishna Farm after spending two months there:

My time at the Krishna Farm was simply wonderful. From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced by the peaceful atmosphere and the warm hospitality of the people there. Tony and his wife were fantastic hosts. Their love for the farm and the community was inspiring.

The work in the garden was not just an opportunity to connect with nature but also a chance to learn new skills and express myself creatively. The days flew by, and I enjoyed every moment of learning and growth.

The location of the farm is simply breathtaking. Surrounded by lush hills and tranquil nature, it was the perfect place to relax and connect with myself.

The accommodations were cozy and comfortable, and I felt at home in the simple yet lovingly designed cabins.

Overall, my stay at the Krishna Farm was a experience that I will never forget. I will always hold this time and the people in my Memory.

I had an amazing time on the farm! I've definitely made lifelong friendships with lots of the other volunteers. We all made lots of memories that will stick with me forever, including trips to Newcastle, working in Mana's garden and exploring the area with the others! I spent 3 weeks there which felt like an ideal amount of time :)

I spend three weeks in the farm and I had a great time there. The atmosphere is great, the landscapes around the farm are really beautiful and all peoples from the farm are friendly, interesting and welcoming. This farm is the best place is you want to learn more about India, spirituality, yoga, meditation, the Hare Krishna movement,...
Tony is very friendly offered us pizza and ice cream several times, bring us to the beach drove us to Sydney for Christmas and New years, let us sleep in Govindas (his restaurant-theater).
The work is very interesting and variated, work in the kitchen, in the guest house, in the vegetable garden, the best place if you are interested in farming and gardening.
I can only recommend you to go and experience all theses incredible things.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. All of the work (prepping meals in the kitchen, harvesting veggies on the farm, cleaning out the guest house) was interesting, and I was lucky to find myself surrounded by a great group of fellow volunteers. At the end of my two weeks, I was sad to leave after quickly building a lot of meaningful friendships with everyone there. A big thank you to Tony and Janet for having me to stay!

Had an absolutely fantastic time on the farm! Really enjoyed every moment of it! I stayed in a cabin with another guy, with our own ensuite and little kitchenette. We were fed 4 times a day with lovely indian cuisine, and the work was always enjoyable too. I really loved working with Mana in the garden, who is such a nice guy. The other volunteers were genuinely super lovely too and I enjoyed getting to know them. Tony was super helpful, took us out for ice-creams and was very accommodating when it came to New years eve to make sure everyone got a chance to see the fireworks in Sydney. It was amazing to see how their culture worked, and their beliefs too. Really opened my eyes. Hare Krishna!

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Annika on our farm for several weeks and she proved to be a sheer delight to be around....always happy, positive and enthusiastic. She is such a sweet person with a heart of gold and I personally miss her so much now that she is no longer a member of our "family"....I know the rest of our community feels the same. She was always bubbling with energy and performed every task that she was allocated to the highest standard....perfection. I have no hesitation in recommending her to any future host.

The farm was truly enchanting for me. From my very first day, I felt not only welcomed by the warm-hearted individuals on the farm but also by the dedicated fellow volunteers and, notably, Tony. He took the time right at the beginning to give me a comprehensive tour of the farm, explaining every detail. Both he and his wife proved to be incredibly helpful and lovely hosts. The work in the garden was not only fulfilling but also educational.

The farm itself is situated in a beautiful location and exudes a unique atmosphere. Exploring the spiritual aspects there was profoundly fascinating. The accommodations in the cabins were not only aesthetically pleasing but also incredibly comfortable.

This was my first volunteering experience, and I am infinitely grateful to have had this experience. The people, the farm, and the entire journey will be dearly missed.

The fact that the farm is so secluded made me very happy. When staying there you really are one with nature for a bit and I found it very calming. The Hari Krishna aspect of it is quite interesting but in a good way. Tony takes the time to teach you about it in a fin (without pressure) way. We felt very welcome.
The work is very doable. I mainly liked working on the construction area (they are building a new work away place) because it teaches you very handy skills. All of the people working on the farm are very sweet and the other people made the experience so amazing.
I left with a full heart, Thank you

I arrived at the farm in the beginning of October after spontaneously deciding to quit my job in New Zealand and fly over to Australia, so I didn't have any high expectations.. Tony invited me to stay at Govindas for the first night. We had a private Barbie screening in the cinema upstairs and a great dinner in the restaurant, so already at my first night I felt very welcomed. When we arrived at the farm on the next day, I already loved the vibes, the food and the whole setting of the farm.
What should follow for the next 2 months I stayed there was probably one of the best experiences I had during my travels.
I spent a lot of time in the garden with Mana (who is just the most precious Person, it doesn't get boring with him) and the other volunteers which was really fun and sometimes I was also working in the kitchen, the Guesthouse or on the Construction Site (which were also really cool to do). Throughout the day, there is always so much and especially such amazing vegetarian food, so be prepared for gaining a few extra kilos😉
In our free time, we were able to do so many great things, like dancing & singing in the temple, movie nights in the barn, cabin partys, feeding the cows, driving to the beach at the weekends,...
All of us Volunteers got along with each other so well and everyone made such great friendships!
All the people from the community are so incredibly friendly and caring and we were never pressured into visiting the temple, etc. but it was always a voluntary thing😊
I'm so grateful for my time at the farm and will definitely be coming back as soon as I'm back in Australia! Also big thanks to Tony and Jayasri, who are both amazing and are doing a great job with managing everything :)
If you are an open person and looking for some new experiences that will stay with you for the rest of your life, than I can really only recommend going to the farm, you won't regret it!

I had the best time at the Farm and I'll be definitely come back and a part of my heart will always stay there.
It's a yoga retreat for your soul in the nature of New South Wales.
No busy city vibes there, you'll be surrounded of nature, kangaroos and cows. But for your belongings, there will be opportunities for a lift to some towns sometimes for shopping and exploring.

I first met Tony in Sydney in front of the awesome Restaurant Govindas. We drove together to the farm and already after the first few minutes talking I felt really welcomed and happy about this new experience. He said to me: "Now you are in Australia and you are free. You'll have the best time and become an yogi!"

This farm is a big community with a lot of people who live there constantly. They are welcoming around 12 volunteers the same time. I met a lot of people from all over the world and made friendships for lifetime!

I stayed one month at the farm and lived in a beautiful wooden cabin together with one other girl. We organised some activities together with the other volunteers, like morning yoga, walks, movie nights or dance sessions.

The work there is called karma yoga. That means you don't have to do boring stressful work. It means you learn and do something for the community you live with. I felt really proud to work in Australias #1 non-commercial garden!

Mana, the head of the garden, taught us a lot. Plus, just being in the fields and pulling weeds was truly a meditation.
Another type of work is helping in the kitchen, where you can learn great Indian cooking tips. The food at the farm is super delicious. I'm so addicted to ginger now, big thanks to Citrupa and the other chefs.
Other tasks could include cleaning the guest house, mopping some official areas, or assisting the construction team.

A big part of the farm is Hare Krishna and spirituality. You don't have to do it but I highly recommend attending the temple sessions and opening yourself to something new! Hari bol

My time at Tony's farm was wonderful. What makes this workaway experience so special is the variety of tasks that we are doing, we can help in the gardens, at construction, in the kitchen or the guesthouse. Jeanette was so nice to let me work with Mana in the beautiful organic garden most of the time, you can just tell her which kind of work you prefer. 🌱🌞
Besides I met a lot of other volunteers here and made new friends which was amazing.
Thank you!

Beautiful experience inside the temple. Tony was an amazing experienced man whith a big heart!
We have known lot of people inside the temple, experienced induist who teach us culture about their religion.
We also have been treated very well from all of them. Get prepared to eat Indian food along all your stay...what a delicious food!
Despite the other review that mention about disparity of men and ladies, I can say that is not true. To my girlfriend, which is actually still a lady, was proposed to sleep in a tent for one or two night because we need to live a room destinated for guest (so people who pay for staying in the temple).
Tony was very gentle and he offer THREE NIGHT FOR FREE in his restaurant in Govindas located in King's Croos, next to the CBD and moreover, he offer us a movie in the cinema (inside the Govindas) and meal for free.

The only thing that I didn't enjoy inside the temple was some of other volunteer which were not to friendly or able to socialize and we were too many and, sometimes, it wasn't any job to do.
This is not fault of the people inside the temple because I strongly think that a beautiful experience is made, in most of cases, by the people and not by the places.

Thanks again. I'll see you soon.

Hare Krishna

Bram and I really liked this workaway. We could sleep in the best room of the guesthouse with a (shared) bathroom for 5 nights. The other 2 nights we had to sleep in our Camper.
The people at the farm were very nice and Tony is such a nice man. They give the volunteers so much for only 5 hours work per day (very relaxed, mostly in the garden with Mana). The kitchen work is a bit harder, as you have to clean al the pots and have to help with cooking, but still nice to do different kind of tasks at the farm.
When you go to Sydney you can also come to their Restaurand/cinema and watch free movies, get free food and soms volunteers also sleeped there for a few nights!
The food at the farm is also very nice, lots of vegetables. Sometimes a bit much of indian food (3x a day), but for the week we were there, it was very nice.
We also really loved that there were much other volunteers, we met so much amazing people and had a great time all together!
I really enjoyed going to some Hare Krishna ceremonies at the Temple. 1 night we were with a lot of volunteers (only the girls) and danced together.

We want to thank Tony and the other people of the farm for this experience!
Haribo!  Kim & Bram

I am grateful to Tony, Jai, and all the people I met there.
This was my first workaway and I was really narvos. But everyone gave me a warm welcome.
Life on the farm was very exciting and peaceful with fellow volunteers. There were many firsts, such as seeing peacocks up close, seeing cows with extended horns, and experiencing vegetarian food. I love the muffins the chef makes.
I really liked to enjoy campfires, movies, and looking at the beautiful starry sky. I still talk to friends I met there and they have become wonderful language partners for me.
I am so glad that my first volunteering was here. I hope to see everyone again when I go to Australia again.
Thank you so much.

Overall, we loved our stay at the Farm! Me and my girlfriend would rate this as one of our favourite experiences in Aus 🥰 We made amazing friends who were volunteers (and also queer🌈). We felt safe and surrounded by nature. The community is based on Hare Krishna devotion and we were welcomed to join services in the temple (or not, there was no pressure). The volunteer cabins were luxury and we could've comfortably stayed here for much longer than two weeks. There is even a volunteer lounge with comfy bean bags and a projector cinema which is so cosy🍿. Mana who helped us in the garden was so lovely and would occasionally take us for trips to the store in the bus and was happy to take us to Newcastle when leaving and collected us from Cessnock on arrival - we will miss you Mana!!! Sometimes there was a lack of direction with the volunteer irl which wasn't ideal but usually we would just ask around and try to help out where we could. Sree and Padma who are devotees and part of the community were always so kind to us and would give us direction on the work if we were unsure. We were grateful for the food that was provided to us (even if it wasn't what we are used to) and would recommend this Workaway to solo travellers or couples as it's a good place to relax in solitude but also to meet other like-minded travellers

I was staying here about 2 weeks and it was undeniably amazing and inspired experience for me.
I really appreciate for people living there. Morning, you can see cows eating grasses and in evening, sky is filled with beautiful stars. Actually there is rural area but I strongry recommend to stay here. Vegetarian food is a little bit challenging for me at first but you don't need to worry about that. Dishes were amazing. For me, pancakes was great.
Everyone was so kind and they always care about me and other volunteers.
Thank you very mych. I'll visit here when I come to Australia next time.

I had a great time staying at the farm for over month when first arriving in Australia in June 2023, I made some amazing friends via the other volunteers staying there concurrently and Tony and all the others were super welcoming, even going so far as to provide some boots and clothes for work when I decided to stay a bit more long term, as well as also help with finding accommodation in Sydney when arriving/leaving NSW which was all greatly appreciated.

I enjoyed working outside doing the variety of different farm jobs that still left plenty of time for me to practice yoga/make music and talk with the other volunteers. It was easy to slip into a routine based around work and the multiple daily meals that were provided and Sydney is not so far away for those with a car, it was cool visiting the city on my days off with some of the other workaways. Wishing everyone at the farm the best and hope all is well (the cows too haha)

I stayed at the farm for nearly 4 weeks and absolutely loved it. Learning about the Hare Krishna movement was so interesting but I never felt under any pressure to learn or partake in practices.
The food and lodging at the farm are outstanding and you truly feel at home during your stay, I have also made some amazing new friends in the other volunteers at the farm.
Special thanks to Mana who runs the garden for his kindness and wisdom which I will miss a lot.

spent 2 weeks here and had a wonderful time! This spiritual farm is situated in a peaceful location, with gorgeous rolling hills and wildlife galore. My highlight was the accommodation: clean, cozy, wooden cabins that have modern toilets/showers, small kitchenettes (outfitted with lots and lots of tea), and porch seating to take in the view. As I came during low season, I spent some days as the sole volunteer, but everyone at the farm made me feel so welcomed and cared for. The food -- 3 buffet style meals per day + a fruit break (all of which is vegetarian Indian food) -- was very delicious. In terms of work, all tasks were very manageable, slow-paced, and independent, starting at 10am and finishing around 4pm (including an hour long lunch break).

I spent most of my time in the garden (weeding, watering, potting, preparing for the next harvest etc.), cleaning out the guesthouse (housekeeping, stripping/making beds, cleaning restrooms etc.), and washing dishes after meals. I loved working with Mana, who was extremely kind and generous, who would periodically take volunteers into town/on errands, and who endeavoured to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Our spirited chats in the garden made my time so enjoyable.

The farm is visited by devotees everyday (with lots more on the weekend) who come to pray in the temple and enjoy lunch together, creating an interesting religious sensibility. There are a lot of picnic tables and space outdoors, so no matter how busy the temple/dining hall was, I always felt very peaceful. Oh and the cows. Such sweet, old beings who wander freely around the property.

If you are looking for laidback work, a peaceful environment, and the opportunity to learn about Krishna Consciousness, I would absolutely recommend staying here!

This comes 3 weeks later, but I had an amazing time on this farm and can highly recommend to stay there. I spent about 3.5 weeks here and I am still processing all the impressions I got. First of all, everyone is very welcoming and caring, which made me feel good and appreciated from the first day. Secondly the cultural exchange was very interesting. Everyone was happy to share their knowledge and wisdom, or if you are interested to learn about Hare Krishna, they are more than happy to welcome you in the temple. The work was really nice and always different and I enjoyed every part of it! If it was helping in the kitchen, in the garden or cleaning. I made so many special memories, for example milking the cow, dancing in Sydney during the vivid festival and wearing the most beautiful saris and meeting so many wonderful people, staying in the ashram and having dinner in their restaurant, meditation and dancing in the temple, creating flower garlands in the temple, having movie nights together and learning about the environment, having a bonfire and marshmellows and just hanging out with the other volunteers. The mostly Indian food, that the chefs are providing 3 times a day is incredibly good and the accommodation is very nice as well. Tony and Jayasri are always making sure that you are feeling good and are even providing hot water bottles and the most comfortable matching Pyjamas, we were all wearing :D I am so thankful that you reached out to me and that I could experience your way of life. I am missing everyone already, and the cows too, beautiful creature's ! I will keep these memories in my heart forever but I hope I will visit you again one day:)

I had a wonderful 2 week stay with this community.
I actually only spent one week at the garm, because I got to dance at the Vivid Festival in Sydney for the rest of the time.
The farm is a very peaceful and relaxing place in the middle of nature. I got to do some gardening, painting and housekeeping in their guesthouse.
As I'm vegan I had some difficulties at the beginning, which were quickly resolved though once I spoke to the owners... We got access to the kitchen and they even provided a small cooker for our room.
Everyone was very open to any questions I had about the Krishna religion, which I enjoyed a lot.
I met some wonderful people in this community and am very thankful that I got to be apart of the Harinams!

My friend and I had the pleasure of staying there for nearly a week, and we had an absolutely wonderful time! The people there were incredibly kind and welcoming. It's a truly serene location where you can unwind and appreciate nature's beauty. The volunteer tasks were manageable, and we had the chance to acquire various skills. One of our highlights was working in the garden alongside Mana, who exudes a remarkable passion for gardening. His extensive knowledge about plants was impressive, and we're grateful to him for introducing us to the delightful horned melon.

If you're seeking a tranquil place to relax and reconnect with your spiritual side, this is definitely the perfect spot for you.

Once again, Tony, thank you for this incredible opportunity!

The people on the farm are all really nice and took the time to talk to me despite my broken English. The work is really easy and pleasant and changes often. Sometimes you'll be cooking, painting or gardening. The food is really very good, maybe too good, you eat too much ahah
Every day there's a spiritual ceremony you can go to, it's very interesting.
Don't hesitate to spend a few weeks at the farm, you'll meet some beautiful souls and make lots of friends 🙏

It`s a quiet place with lovely people and hundreds of cool cows :) The farm is definitely a good place to be and the work that needs to be done is mostly fun (especially if you work with the other workawayers together :D)! I`m happy I had the pleasure to stay there and make new experiences, friends and to try out so many amazing meals. Tony would say: "You won`t leave this beautiful place hungry!" And he was definitely right :D
Thank you Tony for being such a generous and humorous person!

I stayed around 3 weeks on the farm in one of the beautiful cabins, which were built especially for the volunteers with a lot of love. The volunteers are always well looked after. We got pyjamas, slippers, hot water bottles and even some cardigans to make us feel comfortable. Tony is a very warm, helpful and funny man who is always there for you if something is bothering you.
Besides many new and exciting experiences, I met some of the warmest and dearest people I’ve ever met. The farm is full of happiness and a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
I had the opportunity to try out many things (e.g. gardening, helping in the kitchen, cleaning the guest house, painting, picking peppers, planting broccoli, animal care and much more…). We had awesome and funny bonfires, interesting movie nights and great trips to the town. In my spare time I enjoyed milking the cow, making flower garlands with the devotees while learning interesting things about Hare Krishna and spending time with all the other volunteers on the farm.
I really enjoyed my time there and I can definitely recommend it to everyone!

Also the rest of the crew on the farm are all so kind and open- minded so it feels like a second home. The work was not really hard and really fun. There are different kinds of work like gardening, kitchen stuff, cleaning. You have also the chance to milk a cow, thank you very much Kaliya!!

Thank you Tony and Jayasri for the days on the farm, but also the days in Sydney. It was such a pleasure to dance with you on the Vivid festival. Hope to see you again one day!

My time at the Hare Krishna temple/ cow sanctuary was fascinating! I was here for 10 days and it flew by! I met the kindest people here!
I enjoyed how the workday was split up into shifts, and how many different types of opportunities were available. From cleaning the guest house, to gardening, picking peppers and turmeric, mulching, helping in the kitchen, painting the temples scaffolding, to power washing, I always had a variety of tasks. Would recommend to others who are wanting to become more knowledgeable with organic farming, as I learned a lot from Mana.
In my spare time I enjoyed making flower necklaces, practicing yoga, milking a cow, and having enlightening conversations with devotees. The open-minded and respectful community here will always have a special place in my heart.
Thank you so so much everyone! I’ll always remember this as my first host in Australia, I’m very grateful for this experience.
Wish you love and light, Hare Krishna!

What an amazing experience I had at the farm! I've spent there ten days and I had such a good time. In few days you will feel part of the community, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, even the cows. It's so interesting and stimulating to see a way of living different to the ones we're used to see on our everyday life. The farm is surrounded by nature: such a huge variety of wild birds, large forests and even a picturesque lake. You are expected to work some hours five days a week (I spent most of the time weeding, gardening and helping with new constructions, I even milked a cow) and you will receive in return accomodation and so much amazing vegetarian food. You will also have the possibility to meet other volunteers from anywhere in the world and visitors of the temple, you can get in touch with so many people. Tony, Jaya Sri, Mana and all the other ones, I will never forget you!

We had an incredible time at the place. The whole community is very friendly and welcoming (including the cows) and it's a great place to learn about mantra meditation and kirtan. During the day you can expect to work 4-5 hours gardening or some other outdoor work and in return you get accommodation and 3 incredibly tasty meals (healthy Indian food). Really appreciate all I leant here, including milking a cow, and hope to visit again. Hare krishna :)

Such an amazing place with great people, I felt at home instantly. The food is incredible and there is so much to learn. I helped out on the farm, in their construction projects and in the kitchen to learn from the masters! I hope to return some day soon.
